1. NH3/CO2: The Principle of Cascade Refrigeration System
The NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system is ingeniously crafted with two distinct stages: the high-temperature stage, utilizing NH3 as the refrigerant, and the low-temperature stage, employing CO2 as the refrigerant. In this groundbreaking system, NH3 evaporates in the high-temperature stage to efficiently condense the CO2 gas discharged from the low-temperature stage. A sophisticated condensation evaporator artfully bridges these stages, serving dually as both the condenser for the low-temperature stage and the evaporator for the high-temperature stage.
In this state-of-the-art system, heat load is transferred to the CO2 refrigerant via the terminal evaporator. Here, the heat absorbed by CO2 is seamlessly handed over to the high-temperature NH3 refrigerant, which then elegantly transfers this heat to the high-temperature condenser, releasing it into the environment through a cooling medium. The condensed CO2 from the condensing evaporator flows into the CO2 reservoir, subsequently moving through the dryer filter and throttle valve into the CO2 gas-liquid separator. The liquid CO2 is propelled to the CO2 evaporator using a CO2 circulation pump, bypassing the end-cooling device, like a single freezer or chiller. Post-evaporation, the two-phase CO2 returns to the gas-liquid separator, while the gaseous CO2 is drawn by the compressor for compression back into the condensing evaporator. This cycle perpetuates to complete the unparalleled cascade refrigeration process.
In the NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system, both high and low-temperature levels operate as standalone refrigeration systems, each utilizing a singular refrigerant. The high-temperature NH3 system mirrors a conventional refrigeration framework, inclusive of a compressor, condenser, liquid storage, gas-liquid separator, and a throttling device. Meanwhile, the low-temperature CO2 system is meticulously equipped with a CO2 compressor, condensing evaporator, reservoir, gas-liquid separator, filter dryer, pump, throttling device, evaporator, and an expansion vessel, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
The The CO2 gas-liquid separator is pivotal in isolating CO2 gas droplets from the evaporator within the CO2 compression refrigeration system. This ensures the wet stroke of the compressor is avoided, maintains a stable liquid level during pump operation, and accommodates the return of liquid in end equipment and pipelines when the pump halts. If the gas-liquid separator functions as a CO2 reservoir during inactivity, its volume must be sufficient to contain all the CO2 liquid in the system. Additionally, an auxiliary evaporator atop the gas-liquid separator effectively prevents excessive CO2 pressure post-shutdown. In the NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system, the condensing evaporator plays a dual role: as the evaporator on the NH3 side and the condenser on the CO2 side, where compound liquid evaporates within the tube, and carbon dioxide gas is masterfully condensed into liquid in the shell.
