1. NH3/CO2: The Cascade Refrigeration System Principle
The NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system is ingeniously designed with a dual-stage configuration: a high-temperature stage utilizing NH3 and a low-temperature stage employing CO2. In this sophisticated system, NH3 evaporates in the high-temperature stage to effectively condense CO2 gas from the low-temperature stage. A specially crafted condensation evaporator connects these stages, serving as both the condenser for the low-temperature level and the evaporator for the high-temperature level, ensuring seamless operation.
The brilliant heat transfer begins as the CO2 refrigerant absorbs heat from the end evaporator, transferring it seamlessly to the high-temperature NH3 refrigerant through the condensing evaporator. This high-temperature NH3 then efficiently releases the absorbed heat to the environment via the high-temperature condenser using a cooling medium. The condensed CO2 enters the reservoir and proceeds through a dryer filter and throttle valve to the gas-liquid separator. Propelled by the CO2 circulation pump, liquid CO2 flows to the evaporator, completing its cycle by returning as a two-phase CO2 to the gas-liquid separator. The gaseous CO2 is then compressed and recycled through the condensing evaporator, perpetuating the cascade refrigeration cycle.
In the NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration setup, distinct high and low temperature systems utilize single refrigerants for optimal efficiency. The high-temperature NH3 system mirrors conventional configurations, comprising a refrigeration compressor, condenser, liquid storage, gas-liquid separator, and throttling apparatus. Meanwhile, the low-temperature CO2 system features a CO2 compressor, condensing evaporator, reservoir, gas-liquid separator, filter dryer, pump, throttling mechanism, evaporator, and expansion vessel, ensuring a sophisticated and complete refrigeration solution.
The CO2 gas-liquid separator performs the critical task of segregating CO2 gas droplets from the evaporator in the CO2 compression system. This prevents compressor wet stroke, maintains liquid levels when the pump operates, and ensures end equipment and pipeline safety upon pump deactivation. If utilized as a CO2 reservoir when idle, it must accommodate all system-wide CO2 liquid. Additionally, an auxiliary evaporator atop the separator prevents excessive CO2 pressure post-shutdown. In the NH3/CO2 cascade, the condensing evaporator functions dually as the NH3 side evaporator and the CO2 side condenser, facilitating compound liquid evaporation and CO2 condensation with superior heat absorption and stability.
