1. NH3/CO2: The Principle of Cascade Refrigeration System
The NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system is ingeniously structured into two pivotal stages: the high-temperature stage leveraging NH3 as the refrigerant, and the low-temperature stage employing CO2. In this dynamic system, the NH3 evaporates within the high-temperature tier to adeptly condense the CO2 refrigerant gas from the low-temperature tier. Bridging these two stages is a dual-function condensation evaporator, serving as both the low-temperature condenser and the high-temperature evaporator, seamlessly intertwining the cooling process.
In this system, the heat load is skillfully transferred to the CO2 refrigerant via the end evaporator. The absorbed heat by CO2 is then seamlessly relayed to the high-temperature NH3 refrigerant through the condensing evaporator. Subsequently, the NH3 refrigerant conveys this heat to the high-temperature condenser, ultimately releasing it to the environment with the help of a cooling medium. The condensed CO2 is expertly channeled into the CO2 reservoir, then guided through the dryer filter and throttle valve into the CO2 gas-liquid separator. Without the need for an end cooling apparatus, such as a standalone freezer or chiller, the CO2 circulatory pump directs liquid CO2 to the evaporator. Post-evaporation, the two-phase CO2 returns to the gas-liquid separator, where the gaseous CO2 is compressed by the compressor back into the condensing evaporator, perpetuating the cycle of this efficient cascade refrigeration system.
In the NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system, both the high and low temperature levels are distinct systems utilizing individual refrigerants. The equipment is strategically divided: the high-temperature NH3 refrigeration system mirrors a conventional setup, featuring not just the refrigeration compressor but also the condenser, liquid storage, gas-liquid separator, and throttling device. The low-temperature CO2 system, meanwhile, incorporates a CO2 compressor and a suite of components including a condensing evaporator, reservoir, gas-liquid separator, filter dryer, pump, throttling device, evaporator, and expansion vessel.
The The CO2 gas-liquid separator serves a crucial role in detaching CO2 gas droplets from the evaporator in the CO2 compression refrigeration system. This mechanism prevents compressor wet stroke, sustains a stable liquid level during pump operation, and stores returning equipment and pipeline liquid when the pump ceases operation. If utilized as a CO2 reservoir while inactive, its volume must accommodate the entirety of the system's CO2 liquid. Additionally, an auxiliary evaporator should be positioned at the gas-liquid separator's top to effectively control CO2 pressure post-shutdown. In the NH3/CO2 cascade system, the condensing evaporator doubles as both NH3's evaporator and CO2's condenser, where compound liquid evaporates within the tube, and CO2 gas is converted to liquid within the shell.
