The NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system is a marvel of engineering, masterfully comprising two integral stages: the high-temperature stage with NH3 as the refrigerant, and the low-temperature stage utilizing CO2 as the refrigerant. In this sophisticated system, the evaporation of the refrigerant NH3 in the high-temperature level is ingeniously used to condense the refrigerant gas CO2 that is discharged from the low-temperature level. A specially designed condensation evaporator serves as a crucial link between the two stages, acting both as the condenser for the low-temperature level and the evaporator for the high-temperature level.
Within this dynamic process, the heat load is effectively transferred to the CO2 refrigerant through the end evaporator. The heat absorbed by the CO2 refrigerant is efficiently transferred to the high-temperature NH3 refrigerant through the condensing evaporator. The high-temperature NH3 refrigerant then performs the final act of heat transfer to the high-temperature condenser, releasing it to the environment via a cooling medium. After condensation, the CO2 enters a reservoir, then moves through a gas-liquid separator via a dryer filter and throttle valve. The liquid CO2 is propelled to the evaporator through a dedicated CO2 circulation pump, completing a seamless cycle back to the gas-liquid separator, where the gaseous CO2 is compressed into the condensing evaporator, maintaining the continuous cascade refrigeration cycle.
In this NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration marvel, both temperature levels feature single refrigerant systems. The high-temperature NH3 refrigeration system mirrors a conventional setup with additional components like a compressor, condenser, liquid storage, gas-liquid separator, and throttling device. Meanwhile, the low-temperature CO2 system includes a CO2 compressor, condensing evaporator, reservoir, gas-liquid separator, filter dryer, pump, throttling device, evaporator, and an expansion vessel, collectively forming an advanced refrigeration synergy.
The The CO2 gas-liquid separator is ingeniously designed to meticulously separate CO2 gas droplets from the evaporator within the CO2 compression refrigeration system. This prevents compressor wet stroke, maintains liquid stability during pump operation, and stores liquid from end equipment and pipelines when the pump ceases. If the gas-liquid separator functions as a CO2 reservoir when inactive, it must accommodate all CO2 liquid. An auxiliary evaporator atop the gas-liquid separator effectively prevents excess CO2 pressure post-shutdown. Uniquely, in the NH3/CO2 cascade system, the condensing evaporator operates as both the NH3 evaporator and CO2 condenser, facilitating compound liquid evaporation and heat absorption within the tubes, while carbon dioxide gas transitions to liquid within the shell.
