NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system is a marvel of engineering, consisting of two distinct stages: the high temperature stage, utilizing NH3 as the refrigerant, and the low temperature stage, employing CO2. The process begins with the evaporation of NH3 in the high temperature system, which efficiently condenses the CO2 gas expelled from the low temperature system. A remarkable condensation evaporator serves as the vital link between the high and low temperature stages, acting as both the condenser for the low temperature stage and the evaporator for the high temperature stage, ensuring seamless and effective heat exchange.
In this innovative system, heat load is expertly transferred to the CO2 refrigerant via the end evaporator, which then conveys the absorbed heat to the high-temperature NH3 refrigerant through the condensing evaporator. This high-temperature NH3 refrigerant ingeniously transfers the heat to the high-temperature condenser, which releases it into the environment through the cooling medium. The condensed CO2 then gracefully enters the CO2 reservoir, subsequently moving to the CO2 gas-liquid separator through the dryer filter and throttle valve. A CO2 circulation pump (excluding end cooling devices like single freezers or chillers) propels the liquid CO2 to the CO2 evaporator. Upon leaving the evaporator, the two-phase CO2 elegantly returns to the gas-liquid separator, while gaseous CO2 is drawn by the compressor and compressed back into the condensing evaporator. This rhythmic cycle repeats, completing the sophisticated cascade refrigeration process.
In the realm of NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration, the high and low temperature levels are each fortified with a single refrigerant system. The high-temperature NH3 refrigeration system mirrors conventional refrigeration systems, comprising not just the refrigeration compressor but also the condenser, liquid storage, gas-liquid separator, and throttling device. Meanwhile, the low temperature CO2 refrigeration system is equally comprehensive, including a CO2 compressor, condensing evaporator, reservoir, gas-liquid separator, filter dryer, pump, throttling device, evaporator, and expansion vessel, all working in harmony to ensure optimal performance.
The CO2 gas-liquid separator plays a critical role in separating CO2 gas droplets from the evaporator within the CO2 compression refrigeration system. This not only prevents the dreaded wet stroke of the compressor but also maintains a stable liquid level during pump operation while efficiently storing the end equipment and pipeline liquid return when the pump ceases operation. If used as a CO2 reservoir during downtime, the volume must accommodate all the CO2 liquid in the system. Additionally, an auxiliary evaporator should be strategically placed atop the gas-liquid separator to prevent excessive CO2 pressure post-shutdown. In this dynamic NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system, the condensing evaporator simultaneously serves as the evaporator for NH3 and the condenser for CO2. Here, the compound liquid masterfully evaporates and absorbs heat within the tubes, while the carbon dioxide gas is meticulously condensed into a liquid within the shell.
