1. NH3/CO2: The Ingenious Principle of Cascade Refrigeration System
The NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system is a marvel of engineering, consisting of two distinct stages: the high-temperature stage and the low-temperature stage. In this sophisticated system, NH3 serves as the refrigerant in the high-temperature stage, while CO2 assumes the role in the low-temperature stage. The brilliance lies in NH3's evaporation in the high-temperature stage, which facilitates the condensation of CO2 gas released from the low-temperature stage. A condensation evaporator elegantly bridges these two stages, functioning simultaneously as the condenser for the low-temperature stage and the evaporator for the high-temperature stage.
In this seamless heat exchange process, heat load is efficiently transferred to the CO2 refrigerant through the end evaporator. The absorbed heat is then relayed to the high-temperature NH3 refrigerant via the condensing evaporator. This NH3 refrigerant, now imbued with heat, transfers it further to the high-temperature condenser, ultimately releasing it into the environment through a cooling medium. The condensed CO2, having completed its journey in the condensing evaporator, proceeds to the CO2 reservoir, then to the CO2 gas-liquid separator via a dryer filter and throttle valve. Liquid CO2 is circulated to the CO2 evaporator by the CO2 circulation pump—no end cooling devices required, such as a single freezer or chiller. Post-evaporation, the two-phase CO2 returns to the gas-liquid separator. The gaseous CO2, once more, is drawn by the compressor and compressed into the condensing evaporator. This intricate cycle perpetuates, completing the cascade refrigeration cycle with unrivaled efficiency.
In the NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system, the high and low temperature levels each utilize a single refrigerant, creating distinct yet complementary refrigeration systems. The high-temperature NH3 refrigeration system mirrors a conventional refrigeration system, incorporating not only the refrigeration compressor but also the essential condenser, liquid storage, gas-liquid separator, and throttling device. Meanwhile, the low-temperature CO2 refrigeration system boasts a CO2 compressor, condensing evaporator, reservoir, gas-liquid separator, filter dryer, pump, throttling device, evaporator, and expansion vessel, working harmoniously to achieve superior cooling.
The The CO2 gas-liquid separator is a pivotal component, ensuring the droplets of CO2 gas from the evaporator in the CO2 compression refrigeration system are meticulously separated to prevent compressor wet stroke. It maintains a stable liquid level during pump operation and accommodates the liquid return from the end equipment and pipeline when the pump halts. Should the gas-liquid separator function as a CO2 reservoir during downtime, its volume must aptly contain the entire CO2 liquid system. Additionally, an auxiliary evaporator at the top of the gas-liquid separator safeguards against excessive CO2 pressure post-shutdown. In the NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system, the condensing evaporator doubles as the evaporator on the NH3 side and the condenser on the CO2 side, facilitating compound liquid evaporation and heat absorption within the tube, while condensing carbon dioxide gas into liquid within the shell.
