1. NH3/CO2: The Principle of Cascade Refrigeration System
The NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system ingeniously consists of two vital components: a high-temperature stage and a low-temperature stage. In this sophisticated system, NH3 is utilized as the refrigerant for the high-temperature level, while CO2 serves as the refrigerant for the low-temperature level. The brilliance of this mechanism lies in the evaporation of NH3 at the high-temperature level, which diligently condenses the CO2 refrigerant gas emanating from the low-temperature stage. An innovative condensation evaporator seamlessly merges these two stages, acting as both the condenser for the low-temperature level and the evaporator for the high-temperature level.
In this cutting-edge system, the heat load is efficiently transferred to the CO2 refrigerant through the end evaporator. CO2, having absorbed this heat, channels it to the high-temperature NH3 refrigerant via the condensing evaporator. This NH3 refrigerant, in turn, conveys the heat to the high-temperature condenser, ultimately releasing it into the environment through a cooling medium. The CO2, now condensed in the condensing evaporator, is stored in the CO2 reservoir and then directed through a dryer filter and throttle valve into the CO2 gas-liquid separator. From here, liquid CO2 is expertly propelled to the CO2 evaporator by the CO2 circulation pump (bypassing any end cooling device, like a single freezer or chiller). After the evaporator, the two-phase CO2 elegantly returns to the gas-liquid separator, where gaseous CO2 is meticulously compressed by the compressor into the condensing evaporator. This dynamic cycle continuously perpetuates the entire cascade refrigeration process.
The NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system, a marvel of engineering, features high and low-temperature levels that operate as independent refrigeration systems using distinct refrigerants. The architecture is divided into two sophisticated sections: the high-temperature NH3 refrigeration system mirrors traditional refrigeration systems, encompassing a refrigeration compressor, condenser, liquid storage, gas-liquid separator, and throttling device. Meanwhile, the low-temperature CO2 refrigeration system is an assembly of advanced components, including a CO2 compressor, condensing evaporator, reservoir, gas-liquid separator, filter dryer, pump, throttling device, evaporator, and expansion vessel.
The The CO2 gas-liquid separator plays a crucial role in isolating CO2 gas droplets from the evaporator within the CO2 compression refrigeration system. This prevents compressor issues such as wet strokes, maintains a stable liquid level during pump operation, and stores liquid return from equipment and pipelines when the pump halts. If employed as a CO2 reservoir, its volume must accommodate all system CO2 liquid. Crucially, an auxiliary evaporator atop the gas-liquid separator curbs CO2 pressure post-shutdown. In the NH3/CO2 cascade system, the condensing evaporator serves dual purposes: as the NH3 side's evaporator and the CO2 side's condenser, where compound liquid evaporates and absorbs heat within the tube, while CO2 gas is condensed into liquid in the shell.
