1. The Principle of NH3/CO2 Cascade Refrigeration System
The NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system ingeniously integrates a dual-stage cooling process to achieve superior efficiency. It consists of a high-temperature stage using NH3 as the refrigerant, and a low-temperature stage leveraging CO2. Here, the evaporative cooling of NH3 at the high-temperature level facilitates the condensation of CO2 gas from the low-temperature stage. Uniting these stages is the dual-purpose condensation evaporator, serving both as the condenser for CO2 and the evaporator for NH3, delivering a seamless transition and optimized cooling performance.
The sophisticated heat transfer process begins with the CO2 refrigerant absorbing thermal load from the end evaporator. This absorbed heat is then efficiently transferred to the NH3 refrigerant via the condensing evaporator. Subsequently, NH3 dissipates the heat to the environment through a state-of-the-art high-temperature condenser, using a cooling medium. The liquefied CO2 moves to a CO2 reservoir, and subsequently passes through a dryer filter and throttle valve into the CO2 gas-liquid separator. From here, a CO2 circulation pump propels the liquid CO2 into the evaporator, sans any endpoint cooling devices like a freezer or chiller. The resultant two-phase CO2 then returns to the gas-liquid separator. The gaseous CO2 is drawn by the compressor, compressed, and cycled back into the condensing evaporator. This meticulously designed cycle ensures a consistent and effective cascade refrigeration process.
Within the NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system, each temperature level operates as an independent refrigeration unit with a single refrigerant, each with its unique equipment composition. The high-temperature NH3 system mimics a conventional setup, comprising a refrigeration compressor, condenser, liquid storage, gas-liquid separator, and throttling device. Meanwhile, the low-temperature CO2 system is equipped with a CO2 compressor, sophisticated condensing evaporator, reservoir, gas-liquid separator, filter dryer, pump, throttling device, evaporator, and expansion vessel, ensuring comprehensive refrigeration capabilities.
The The CO2 gas-liquid separator is a critical component, meticulously designed to eliminate CO2 gas droplets from the evaporator, preventing compressor wet strokes. It maintains a stable liquid level as the pump operates and efficiently stores liquid return when the pump halts. If used as a CO2 reservoir when idle, its capacity must accommodate all system CO2 liquid. Additionally, an auxiliary evaporator is incorporated atop the gas-liquid separator to avert excessive CO2 pressure post-shutdown. Within the NH3/CO2 cascade system, the condensing evaporator doubles as an NH3 evaporator and a CO2 condenser, effectively facilitating heat absorption and transforming carbon dioxide gas into liquid.
