The NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system is ingeniously designed with two pivotal stages: the high temperature and low temperature stages. At the core of this innovative system, NH3 (Ammonia) is utilized as the refrigerant in the high-temperature stage, whereas CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) is employed in the low-temperature stage. This harmonious interaction occurs as the NH3 refrigerant's evaporation in the high-temperature system effectively condenses the CO2 refrigerant gas expelled from the low-temperature system. A meticulously engineered condensation evaporator seamlessly bridges these two stages, functioning as both the condenser for the low-temperature level and the evaporator for the high-temperature level.
In this sophisticated system, heat is transferred to the CO2 refrigerant through the terminal evaporator. The CO2 refrigerant, now infused with absorbed heat, conveys this energy to the high-temperature NH3 refrigerant via the condensing evaporator. Subsequently, the NH3 refrigerant efficiently releases the heat to the environment through a high-temperature condenser, assisted by a cooling medium. The journey of condensed CO2 continues as it enters the CO2 reservoir, subsequently traversing the dryer filter and throttle valve on its way to the CO2 gas-liquid separator. From here, liquid CO2 is propelled to the CO2 evaporator by a CO2 circulation pump, with the absence of an end cooling device like a single freezer or chiller. After the evaporator, the two-phase CO2 returns to the gas-liquid separator, where the gaseous CO2 is efficiently compressed by the compressor into the condensing evaporator. This meticulous cycle perpetuates, completing the entire cascade refrigeration loop.

The CO2 gas-liquid separator is a critical component within the CO2 compression refrigeration system, meticulously engineered to separate CO2 gas droplets from the evaporator. This prevents the compressor's wet stroke, ensuring stable liquid levels during pump operation and accommodating end equipment and pipeline liquid return when the pump ceases operation. When not in use, the separator's volume is designed to accommodate all CO2 liquid within the system, effectively functioning as a reservoir. For enhanced safety, an auxiliary evaporator is strategically placed atop the gas-liquid separator to prevent excessive CO2 pressure following shutdowns. In the NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system, the condensing evaporator serves dual roles: as the evaporator on the NH3 side and the condenser on the CO2 side, facilitating the evaporation and heat absorption of compound liquid within the tube and the condensation of carbon dioxide gas into liquid within the shell.
