1. NH3/CO2: The Principle of Cascade Refrigeration System
The NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system is ingeniously comprised of two integral stages: the high temperature stage which employs NH3 as the refrigerant, and a low temperature stage utilizing CO2. The brilliance lies in the evaporation of NH3 within the high temperature system, which facilitates the condensation of CO2 refrigerant gas emanating from the low temperature system. This seamless connection is achieved through a condensation evaporator which ingeniously serves as the condenser for the CO2 and the evaporator for the NH3, merging both the high and low temperature stages into a beautifully synchronized system.
The heat load is elegantly transferred to the CO2 refrigerant via the end evaporator, following which the heat absorbed by CO2 makes its way to the high-temperature NH3 refrigerant through the condensing evaporator. Subsequently, the high-temperature NH3 refrigerant efficiently transfers this heat to the high-temperature condenser, releasing it gracefully to the environment via a cooling medium. The condensed CO2 then travels to the CO2 reservoir and proceeds to the CO2 gas-liquid separator through a meticulous process involving a dryer filter and throttle valve. The liquid CO2 is then elegantly sent to the CO2 evaporator by the CO2 circulation pump, absent of any end cooling device like single freezers or chillers. From here, the two-phase CO2 returns to the gas-liquid separator, where the gaseous CO2 is expertly drawn in by the compressor and compressed back into the condensing evaporator. This majestic cycle repeats to complete the cascade refrigeration cycle in its entirety.
In the NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system, the high and low temperature levels operate as distinct systems, each employing a singular refrigerant. The high-temperature NH3 refrigeration system mirrors a conventional setup, comprising a refrigeration compressor, condenser, liquid storage, gas-liquid separator, and a throttling device. Meanwhile, the low-temperature CO2 refrigeration system includes a CO2 compressor and other integral components like a condensing evaporator, reservoir, gas-liquid separator, filter dryer, pump, throttling device, evaporator, and expansion vessel, creating a harmonious blend of advanced refrigeration technology.
The The CO2 gas-liquid separator is an essential component that ensures the seamless separation of CO2 gas droplets from the evaporator within the CO2 compression refrigeration system. This process is crucial to avoid wet strokes of the compressor and to maintain a stable liquid level during pump operation. It also serves to store end equipment and pipeline liquid return when the pump ceases operation. When utilized as a reservoir during downtime, the separator's volume is designed to accommodate the entire CO2 liquid content of the system. In addition, an auxiliary evaporator is strategically positioned atop the gas-liquid separator to effectively manage CO2 pressure and prevent excessive pressure buildup post-shutdown. Within the NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system, the condensing evaporator plays a dual role as both the NH3 evaporator and the CO2 condenser, with the compound liquid evaporating and absorbing heat within the tubes as CO2 gas is transformed into liquid in the shell.

(1.(3)) This system fully capitalizes on the excellent heat transfer characteristics of NH3 in high-temperature regions, utilizing it to efficiently cool CO2.
(2) CO2 is safely utilized as a medium within personnel-intensive environments, such as single-freezing machines and warehouses, thereby ensuring the utmost safety of both personnel and property.
