1. NH3/CO2: The Principle of Cascade Refrigeration System
The NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system ingeniously combines a dual-stage configuration: a high-temperature stage utilizing NH3, and a low-temperature stage using CO2. In this seamless operation, NH3's evaporation at the high-temperature stage condenses the gaseous CO2 from the low-temperature stage. A specialized condensation evaporator acts as a bridge, facilitating the connection between these stages, serving as both the condenser for the low-temperature and the evaporator for the high-temperature stages.
In our innovative system, the CO2 refrigerant efficiently absorbs the heat load via the end evaporator, transferring it to the high-temperature NH3 through the condensing evaporator. Subsequently, the NH3 refrigerant channels this heat to the high-temperature condenser, releasing it safely into the environment using a cooling medium. Post-condensation, CO2 enters a reservoir, passes through a dryer filter and throttle valve, then proceeds to the CO2 evaporator via a circulation pump. This elegant cycle ensures a consistent return of two-phase CO2 to the gas-liquid separator, where the gaseous CO2 is compressed back into the condensing evaporator, perpetuating the cascade refrigeration cycle seamlessly.
In this sophisticated NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system, each stage functions autonomously with its own refrigerant. The high-temperature NH3 system mirrors conventional setups, encompassing a refrigeration compressor, condenser, liquid storage, gas-liquid separator, and throttling device. Meanwhile, the low-temperature CO2 system boasts components like a condensing evaporator, reservoir, gas-liquid separator, filter dryer, pump, throttling device, evaporator, and expansion vessel. This dual-structured approach optimizes each refrigerant's capabilities to deliver outstanding cooling performance.
The CO2 gas-liquid separator plays a crucial role in our advanced CO2 compression refrigeration system by effectively separating CO2 gas droplets from the evaporator, thus preventing wet strokes and ensuring stable liquid levels during pump operation. This separator can also function as a reservoir, accommodating all CO2 liquid during shutdown. An auxiliary evaporator atop the separator further safeguards by stabilizing CO2 pressure post-shutdown. Moreover, in the NH3/CO2 cascade system, the condensing evaporator doubles as both the NH3-side evaporator and CO2-side condenser, facilitating efficient heat absorption and condensation processes.
