The NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system masterfully integrates two distinct stages: the high-temperature stage employing NH3 and the low-temperature stage utilizing CO2. Within the high-temperature stage, NH3 evaporates, enabling it to condense the CO2 emitted from the low-temperature stage. A pivotal component, the condensing evaporator, functions simultaneously as the condenser for the low-temperature stage and the evaporator for the high-temperature stage, seamlessly linking these two dynamic realms.
Ingeniously designed, the heat load is elegantly transferred to the CO2 refrigerant via the end evaporator. This absorbed heat is then efficiently conveyed to the high-temperature NH3 refrigerant through the condensing evaporator. In turn, NH3 transfers the heat to the high-temperature condenser, releasing it gracefully to the environment through a cooling medium. The cycle continues as condensed CO2 journeys through the CO2 reservoir, passing through the dryer filter and throttle valve, reaching the CO2 gas-liquid separator. From here, CO2 is sent to the CO2 evaporator by the CO2 circulation pump, entering a seamless process where two-phase CO2 returns to the gas-liquid separator. The compressor then reintroduces gaseous CO2 into the condensing evaporator, maintaining the cascade refrigeration cycle effortlessly.
The NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system is an engineering marvel, with separate high and low-temperature levels each representing distinct refrigeration processes with single refrigerants. The high-temperature NH3 system mirrors a conventional setup, featuring essential components like the refrigeration compressor, condenser, liquid storage, gas-liquid separator, and throttling device. Meanwhile, the low-temperature CO2 system is equipped with a CO2 compressor, condensing evaporator, reservoir, gas-liquid separator, filter dryer, pump, throttling device, evaporator, and expansion vessel, ensuring optimal performance.
The The CO2 gas-liquid separator plays a critical role in the CO2 compression refrigeration system by separating CO2 gas droplets from the evaporator, preventing compressor wet strokes, maintaining a stable liquid level during pump operation, and storing liquid return when the pump halts. If used as a CO2 reservoir during non-operation, its capacity must accommodate the entire CO2 liquid volume. An auxiliary evaporator strategically positioned atop the gas-liquid separator ensures CO2 pressure remains controlled post-shutdown. Adding to its versatility, the condensing evaporator in the NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system acts as both the evaporator on the NH3 side and the condenser on the CO2 side, where the compound liquid evaporates, absorbing heat within the tube, while CO2 gas condenses into liquid within the shell.
