1. NH3/CO2: The Cascade Refrigeration System Principle
The NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system is ingeniously designed with two stages: the high temperature stage utilizes NH3, while the low temperature stage employs CO2. The innovative mechanism allows NH3 to evaporate within the high temperature level, effectively condensing CO2 gas discharged from the low temperature stage. A dual-function condensation evaporator elegantly bridges these two stages, serving as both the low temperature condenser and the high temperature evaporator.
The heat load is efficiently transferred to the CO2 refrigerant via the end evaporator. As CO2 absorbs heat, it moves it to the high-temperature NH3 refrigerant through the condensing evaporator. The high-temperature NH3 then channels the excess heat to a high-temperature condenser, releasing it into the environment utilizing a cooling medium. Condensed CO2 journeys into the CO2 reservoir, followed by a passage through a dryer filter and throttle valve to enter the CO2 gas-liquid separator. Liquid CO2 is propelled to the CO2 evaporator via a circulation pump, absent of end cooling devices. Post-evaporation, two-phase CO2 is returned to the gas-liquid separator, while gaseous CO2 is drawn by the compressor and compressed back into the condensing evaporator. This seamless cycle continues, ensuring an uninterrupted cascade refrigeration cycle.
Within the NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system, each temperature level operates a single refrigerant system independently. The high-temperature NH3 system mirrors conventional models, including a refrigeration compressor, condenser, liquid storage, gas-liquid separator, and throttling device. The low-temperature CO2 system, however, boasts its own CO2 compressor, condensing evaporator, reservoir, gas-liquid separator, filter dryer, pump, throttling device, evaporator, and expansion vessel, showcasing advanced technology and design.
The The CO2 gas-liquid separator plays a crucial role in isolating CO2 gas droplets from the evaporator in CO2 compression systems, preventing compressor wet strokes, maintaining liquid level stability during pump operation, and storing system liquids when pumps cease operation. When inactive, the separator's volume should accommodate all system CO2 liquid. An auxiliary evaporator atop the separator ensures CO2 pressure remains controlled post-shutdown. In the NH3/CO2 cascade system, the versatile condensing evaporator functions as an NH3-side evaporator and a CO2-side condenser, where the compound liquid evaporates within tubes and CO2 gas condenses into a liquid in the shell.
