1. NH3/CO2: The Principle of Cascade Refrigeration System
The NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system is an innovative marvel composed of two distinct stages: high temperature and low temperature. The high temperature stage employs NH3 as the refrigerant, providing an efficient cooling mechanism, while the low temperature stage uses CO2. In this harmonious system, the evaporation of NH3 in the high temperature stage masterfully condenses the CO2 gas from the low temperature stage. To seamlessly integrate these stages, a unique condensation evaporator is employed, serving as both the condenser for the low temperature level and the evaporator for the high temperature level, ensuring optimal thermal exchange and energy efficiency.
At the heart of this system, the heat load is expertly transferred to the CO2 refrigerant through the end evaporator. This absorbed heat is then efficiently channeled to the high-temperature NH3 refrigerant via the condensing evaporator. The high-temperature NH3 refrigerant flawlessly transfers this heat to the high-temperature condenser, where it is finally released to the environment through an advanced cooling medium. The condensed CO2 is collected in the CO2 reservoir before passing through a dryer filter and throttle valve into the CO2 gas-liquid separator. Here, the liquid CO2 is propelled to the CO2 evaporator by a specialized CO2 circulation pump. Following the evaporation, the two-phase CO2 returns to the gas-liquid separator, where the gaseous CO2 is expertly compressed by the compressor and fed back into the condensing evaporator. This efficient cycle perpetuates, completing the cascade refrigeration cycle with remarkable precision.
Within the NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system, the high and low temperature levels operate as independent refrigeration systems, each utilizing a single refrigerant. This sophisticated system is divided into two segments: the high-temperature NH3 refrigeration system, mirroring conventional systems, includes not only the refrigeration compressor but also a condenser, liquid storage, gas-liquid separator, and throttling device. The low temperature CO2 refrigeration system is equally comprehensive, featuring a CO2 compressor, condensing evaporator, reservoir, gas-liquid separator, filter dryer, pump, throttling device, evaporator, and an expansion vessel, all working in concert to deliver optimal performance.
The CO2 gas-liquid separator plays a pivotal role in maintaining the efficiency of the CO2 compression refrigeration system. It expertly separates CO2 gas droplets from the evaporator to prevent wet strokes in the compressor, ensures a stable liquid level during pump operation, and efficiently stores return liquid from end equipment and pipelines when the pump ceases operation. If utilized as a reservoir when inactive, its volume must accommodate the entire CO2 liquid content in the system. Additionally, an auxiliary evaporator should be mounted atop the gas-liquid separator to prevent excessive CO2 pressure post-shutdown. Within the NH3/CO2 cascade system, the condensing evaporator serves a dual role: it acts as the NH3 side's evaporator and the CO2 side's condenser, where the compound liquid evaporatively absorbs heat within the tube, while carbon dioxide gas condenses into a liquid in the shell.

(1.(3)) This system takes full advantage of NH3's excellent heat transfer properties in the high-temperature region, effectively utilizing it to cool CO2.
(2) CO2 is safely introduced as a medium into areas with high personnel presence, such as single-freezing machines and warehouses, ensuring the safety of both individuals and property.
