Innovative NH3/CO2 Cascade Refrigeration System
1. NH3/CO2: The Principle Behind Our Cascade Refrigeration System
The NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system consists of two integral parts: the high-temperature stage and the low-temperature stage. The high-temperature stage utilizes NH3 as the refrigerant, while the low-temperature stage employs CO2. The NH3 refrigerant evaporates in the high-temperature level to condense the CO2 gas from the low-temperature level. This process is facilitated by a condensation evaporator, which serves as both the condenser for the low-temperature level and the evaporator for the high-temperature level, ensuring an efficient and seamless transfer of thermal energy.
 
Thermal energy is transferred to the CO2 refrigerant via the end evaporator. The CO2 refrigerant then transfers the absorbed heat to the high-temperature NH3 refrigerant through the condensing evaporator. This high-temperature NH3 refrigerant disperses the heat into the environment through a high-temperature condenser. The condensed CO2 in the condensing evaporator moves to the CO2 reservoir, then proceeds through a dryer filter and throttle valve before entering the CO2 gas-liquid separator. Liquid CO2 is pumped to the CO2 evaporator via the CO2 circulation pump, while the two-phase CO2 returns to the gas-liquid separator post-evaporation. The gaseous CO2 is then compressed by the compressor into the condensing evaporator, perpetuating the cycle and completing the cascade refrigeration cycle.

In the NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system, the high and low-temperature stages function as independent refrigeration systems using single refrigerants. The high-temperature NH3 refrigeration system, akin to conventional systems, features a refrigeration compressor, condenser, liquid storage, gas-liquid separator, and throttling device. The low-temperature CO2 refrigeration system includes a CO2 compressor, condensing evaporator, reservoir, gas-liquid separator, filter dryer, pump, throttling device, evaporator, and expansion vessel, structured to ensure operational excellence.
 
CO2 Gas-Liquid SeparatorTheCO2 gas-liquid separator effectively separates CO2 gas droplets from the evaporator in the CO2 compression refrigeration system, preventing compressor wet stroke and stabilizing liquid levels during pump operation. It also accommodates liquid returns from end equipment and pipelines when the pump halts. If used as a reservoir when inactive, its volume must contain all system CO2 liquid. Additionally, an auxiliary evaporator should be placed atop the separator to avert excessive CO2 pressure post-shutdown. In the NH3/CO2 cascade system, the condensing evaporator dual-functions as the NH3-side evaporator and CO2-side condenser, where compound liquid evaporates to absorb heat, condensing CO2 gas into liquid.

(1.(3)) Maximizes NH3's excellent heat transfer properties in high-temperature zones to cool CO2 efficiently.
(2) CO2 serves as a safe medium in personnel-intensive areas (such as single-freezing machines) and warehouses, ensuring safety for personnel and property.
