The NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system ingeniously integrates two distinctive stages: the high-temperature stage utilizing NH3 as the refrigerant and the low-temperature stage employing CO2. In this sophisticated design, NH3 vaporization within the high-temperature circuit effectively condenses the CO2 refrigerant emerging from the low-temperature unit. A strategically positioned condensation evaporator serves as the crucial connector, acting dually as the condenser for the low-temperature stage and the evaporator for the high-temperature phase.
This innovative cascade system seamlessly transfers heat load to the CO2 refrigerant via the end evaporator. As CO2 absorbs this heat, it is adeptly transferred to the high-temperature NH3 refrigerant through the condensing evaporator, subsequently dissipating into the environment via the cooling medium. Post-condensation, CO2 travels from the condensing evaporator to a CO2 reservoir, progressing through a dryer filter and throttle valve to the CO2 gas-liquid separator. The liquid CO2 is propelled to the CO2 evaporator by a circulation pump (device-free, e.g., single freezer or chiller). Following the evaporator, the two-phase CO2 returns to the separator, where gaseous CO2 is harnessed by the compressor, compressed, and directed back to the condensing evaporator. This cycle perpetuates the cascade refrigeration process with unmatched precision.
Within the NH3/CO2 cascade system, the high-temperature and low-temperature components operate as distinct systems, each utilizing a single refrigerant. The high-temperature NH3 segment mirrors conventional refrigeration setups, encompassing a compressor, condenser, liquid storage, gas-liquid separator, and throttling device. Meanwhile, the low-temperature CO2 circuit includes a CO2 compressor, condensing evaporator, reservoir, gas-liquid separator, filter dryer, pump, throttling device, evaporator, and expansion vessel, ensuring comprehensive and effective cooling.
The CO2 gas-liquid separator plays an essential role in isolating CO2 gas droplets from the evaporator, safeguarding the compressor from potential wet stroke, and maintaining liquid stability during pump operations. It also serves as a liquid return reservoir for equipment and pipelines. When static, the separator's volume accommodates the entire CO2 liquid content, while an auxiliary evaporator at the apex prevents excessive CO2 pressure post-shutdown. In the NH3/CO2 cascade system, the condensing evaporator doubles as the NH3 side evaporator and CO2 side condenser, where compound liquid evaporation and carbon dioxide condensation occur harmoniously.
