1. The Principle Behind NH3/CO2 Cascade Refrigeration System
NH3/CO2, the cascade refrigeration system ingeniously integrates two stages: a high-temperature stage utilizing NH3 (Ammonia) as the refrigerant, and a low-temperature stage employing CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) as the refrigerant. The evaporative action of NH3 at the high temperature stage condenses the CO2 refrigerant gas from the low temperature stage. A sophisticated condensation evaporator bridges these stages, functioning dually as the condenser for the CO2 and the evaporator for NH3. This seamless integration ensures optimal cooling performance and energy efficiency.
The heat load is meticulously transferred to the CO2 refrigerant through the end evaporator, while the absorbed heat by CO2 is further transferred to the high-temperature NH3 refrigerant via the condensing evaporator. The NH3 refrigerant then disperses the heat into the environment through the high-temperature condenser with the aid of a cooling medium. The condensed CO2 is collected in a reservoir and filtered before entering the CO2 gas-liquid separator. Subsequently, a CO2 circulation pump directs the liquid CO2 to the evaporator, after which the two-phase CO2 returns to the separator. The compressor then re-compresses the gaseous CO2, continuing this efficient cycle.
In this sophisticated NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system, both high and low-temperature levels operate as independent refrigeration systems using single refrigerants. The high-temperature NH3 system is parallel to conventional setups, comprising a refrigeration compressor, condenser, liquid storage, gas-liquid separator, and a throttling device. Meanwhile, the low-temperature CO2 system features a CO2 compressor, condensing evaporator, reservoir, gas-liquid separator, filter dryer, pump, throttling device, evaporator, and an expansion vessel, ensuring a comprehensive and streamlined refrigeration process.
TheCO2gas-liquid separator is pivotal in isolating CO2 gas droplets from the evaporator within the CO2 compression refrigeration system, preventing compressor wet strokes and ensuring a stable liquid level during pump operations. When inactive, it serves as a reservoir, capable of holding the entire CO2 liquid volume. Equipped with an auxiliary evaporator, it adeptly prevents excessive CO2 pressure buildup post-shutdown. In the NH3/CO2 cascade system, the condensing evaporator plays a dual role, efficiently acting as both the NH3 evaporator and CO2 condenser, where compound liquid evaporation and heat absorption occur within the tube, condensing CO2 gas into liquid within the shell.
