1. Principle of NH3/CO2 Cascade Refrigeration System
The NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system ingeniously marries two distinct temperature stages: the high temperature stage employs NH3 as its refrigerant, while the low temperature stage utilizes CO2. This dynamic duo operates harmoniously, with the evaporating NH3 in the high-temperature stage seamlessly condensing the CO2 gas from the low-temperature stage. The linchpin of this system is the condensation evaporator, serving dual purposes as both the condenser for the low-temperature level and the evaporator for the high-temperature level, thus bridging the gap between the two temperature stages.
In this sophisticated system, the heat load is transferred to the CO2 refrigerant through the end evaporator. As CO2 absorbs heat, it is then conveyed to the high-temperature NH3 refrigerant via the condensing evaporator. Consequently, the NH3 refrigerant relays the heat to the high-temperature condenser, ultimately releasing it to the environment through an efficient cooling medium. The condensed CO2, collected in the condensing evaporator, navigates to the CO2 reservoir, then proceeds through the dryer filter and throttle valve into the CO2 gas-liquid separator. From here, liquid CO2 is propelled to the CO2 evaporator via the CO2 circulation pump, entering a seamless cycle. Post-evaporation, the two-phase CO2 returns to the gas-liquid separator, where the gaseous component is suctioned by the compressor, compressing back into the condensing evaporator, thus perpetuating the cascade refrigeration cycle.
In the NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system, the refrigeration systems for both high and low temperature levels operate independently with single refrigerants. The high-temperature NH3 refrigeration system mirrors a conventional setup, encompassing not only a refrigeration compressor but also a condenser, liquid storage, gas-liquid separator, and throttling device. Meanwhile, the low-temperature CO2 refrigeration system features a CO2 compressor, condensing evaporator, reservoir, filter dryer, pump, throttling device, evaporator, and an expansion vessel, each component playing a pivotal role in the system's overall functionality.
The The CO2 gas-liquid separator is a critical element in the CO2 compression refrigeration system, adeptly segregating CO2 gas droplets from the evaporator to prevent compressor wet strokes and ensure stable liquid levels during pump operation. It also accommodates the return of equipment and pipeline liquids when the pump ceases operation. Should the gas-liquid separator function as a CO2 reservoir during inactive periods, it must possess sufficient volume to contain all system CO2 liquid. Additionally, an auxiliary evaporator should be positioned atop the gas-liquid separator to effectively curb CO2 pressure spikes post-shutdown. Within the NH3/CO2 cascade framework, the condensing evaporator doubles as the NH3 evaporator and the CO2 condenser, facilitating the evaporation of compound liquids and subsequent heat absorption inside the tube, while CO2 gas condenses into a liquid within the shell.
