1. NH3/CO2: The Principle Behind the Cascade Refrigeration System
The NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system is an ingenious blend of a high temperature stage and a low temperature stage. In this sophisticated system, NH3 serves as the refrigerant for the high temperature stage, while CO2 powers the low temperature stage. The high temperature level utilizes the evaporation of NH3 refrigerant to efficiently condense the CO2 refrigerant gas expelled from the low temperature level. A condensation evaporator seamlessly connects the high and low temperature stages, serving a dual role as both the condenser for the low temperature level and the evaporator for the high temperature level.
Within this advanced system, the heat load is skillfully transferred to the CO2 refrigerant via the end evaporator. The absorbed heat by CO2 is further transferred to the high-temperature NH3 refrigerant through the condensing evaporator. The NH3 refrigerant, in turn, transfers this heat to the high-temperature condenser, releasing it into the environment through a cooling medium. Condensed CO2 in the condensing evaporator makes its way to the CO2 reservoir, then proceeds to the CO2 gas-liquid separator via a dryer filter and throttle valve. The liquid CO2 is efficiently directed to the CO2 evaporator by the CO2 circulation pump. Post-evaporation, the two-phase CO2 returns to the gas-liquid separator, where the gaseous CO2 is drawn by the compressor and compressed back into the condensing evaporator. This cycle repeats, masterfully completing the cascade refrigeration process.
In the NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system, both high and low temperature levels operate as separate refrigeration systems using distinct single refrigerants. The system's composition is elegantly divided into two parts: the high-temperature NH3 refrigeration system, akin to conventional refrigeration systems, incorporates the refrigeration compressor, condenser, liquid storage, gas-liquid separator, and throttling device. The low temperature CO2 refrigeration system includes a CO2 compressor along with a condensing evaporator, reservoir, gas-liquid separator, filter dryer, pump, throttling device, evaporator, and expansion vessel.
The CO2 gas-liquid separator plays a crucial role in isolating CO2 gas droplets from the evaporator in the CO2 compression refrigeration system, ensuring the compressor avoids any wet strokes, maintaining a stable liquid level during pump operation, and accommodating the end equipment and pipeline liquid return when the pump halts. When functioning as a CO2 reservoir during non-operation, the gas-liquid separator's volume should be capable of holding all CO2 liquid in the system. An auxiliary evaporator should be installed atop the gas-liquid separator to effectively prevent CO2 pressure from soaring post-shutdown. In the NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system, the condensing evaporator acts as both the evaporator on the NH3 side and the condenser on the CO2 side, where compound liquid evaporates and absorbs heat in the tube, while CO2 gas is condensed into a liquid in the shell.

(1.(2)) NH3 is confined to secure locations like the machine room and equipment room, akin to a 'tiger' safely 'caged', under the vigilant watch of skilled technical personnel;
(1.(3)) The high-temperature region fully harnesses NH3's exceptional heat transfer properties for cooling CO2.
(2) Utilizing CO2 as a medium within personnel-dense operation areas, such as single-freezing machines and warehouses, ensuring the utmost safety for both personnel and property.
