1. NH3/CO2: The Principle of Cascade Refrigeration System
The groundbreaking NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system is ingeniously crafted into two seamless parts: the high-temperature stage and the low-temperature stage. In this brilliant system, NH3 serves as the refrigerant for the high temperature, and CO2 reigns supreme in the low temperature. The evaporation of NH3 in the high-temperature level skillfully condenses the CO2 gas discharged from the low-temperature level. A singular condensation evaporator connects these two dynamic stages, functioning as both the condenser for the low-temperature stage and the evaporator for the high-temperature stage.
In this state-of-the-art system, the heat load is elegantly transferred to the CO2 refrigerant via the end evaporator. The heat absorbed by CO2 is then smoothly passed to the high-temperature NH3 refrigerant through the condensing evaporator. The NH3 refrigerant, at high temperature, skillfully transfers the heat to the high-temperature condenser, releasing it effortlessly to the environment through a cooling medium. The condensed CO2 in the condensing evaporator makes its way to the CO2 reservoir, proceeding to the gas-liquid separator via the dryer filter and throttle valve. The liquid CO2 is propelled to the CO2 evaporator by a circulation pump, bypassing any end cooling devices, such as a single freezer or chiller. Post-evaporation, the two-phase CO2 returns to the gas-liquid separator, while the gaseous CO2 is eagerly sucked in by the compressor to be compressed into the condensing evaporator, perpetuating the efficient cascade refrigeration cycle.
The NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system features high and low temperature levels, each employing a single refrigerant system. The equipment configuration is astutely divided: the high-temperature NH3 system parallels conventional systems, boasting a refrigeration compressor, condenser, liquid storage, gas-liquid separator, and throttling device. Meanwhile, the low-temperature CO2 system complements this with a CO2 compressor, condensing evaporator, reservoir, gas-liquid separator, filter dryer, pump, throttling device, evaporator, and an expansion vessel.
The The CO2 gas-liquid separator plays a pivotal role in separating CO2 gas droplets from the evaporator in the CO2 compression refrigeration system. This essential device prevents the dreaded wet stroke of the compressor, maintains a stable liquid level during pump operation, and adeptly stores residual liquid from end equipment and pipelines when the pump halts. If tasked as a CO2 reservoir during inactivity, its volume must accommodate all system CO2 liquid. An auxiliary evaporator atop the gas-liquid separator ensures the CO2 pressure remains manageable post-shutdown. The condensing evaporator in the NH3/CO2 system doubles as the NH3-side evaporator and CO2-side condenser, where the compound liquid skillfully evaporates and absorbs heat within the tube, with carbon dioxide gas condensing into liquid within the shell.
