The NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system is a marvel of engineering, consisting of two distinct yet harmoniously integrated parts: the high temperature stage and the low temperature stage. The high temperature stage utilizes NH3 as the refrigerant, while the low temperature stage operates with CO2. The brilliance of this system lies in how the evaporation of NH3 in the high temperature stage ingeniously condenses the CO2 refrigerant gas from the low temperature stage. These stages are seamlessly connected by a condensation evaporator, which serves the dual purpose of acting as the condenser for the low temperature stage and the evaporator for the high temperature stage.
In this sophisticated system, the heat load is masterfully transferred to the CO2 refrigerant via the end evaporator. The CO2 refrigerant absorbs this heat and then passes it onto the high-temperature NH3 refrigerant through the condensing evaporator. The high-temperature NH3 refrigerant skillfully releases this heat into the environment through a cooling medium at the high-temperature condenser. The journey of the condensed CO2 continues as it enters the CO2 reservoir, then progresses through a dryer filter and throttle valve to reach the CO2 gas-liquid separator. Powered by a CO2 circulation pump, liquid CO2 embarks to the CO2 evaporator (sans end cooling devices like single freezers or chillers). After the evaporator, the two-phase CO2 elegantly returns to the gas-liquid separator, where gaseous CO2 is expertly compressed into the condensing evaporator by the compressor. This cycle repeats, completing the sophisticated cascade refrigeration cycle.
The NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system showcases an elegant dual-temperature setup, with each stage functioning independently using a single refrigerant. The high-temperature NH3 refrigeration system mirrors a conventional system, replete with a compressor, condenser, liquid storage, gas-liquid separator, and throttling device. Meanwhile, the low temperature CO2 refrigeration system boasts a condensing evaporator, reservoir, gas-liquid separator, filter dryer, pump, throttling device, evaporator, and expansion vessel. It deftly separates CO2 gas droplets from the evaporator within the CO2 compression refrigeration system, preventing wet strokes in compressors and preserving a steady liquid level during pump operation. When the pump is idle, it ensures safe liquid return from end equipment and pipelines. As a reservoir, its capacity is engineered to accommodate all CO2 liquid when dormant. An auxiliary evaporator safeguards against excessive CO2 pressure post-shutdown. In the NH3/CO2 cascade, the condensing evaporator is an ingenious dual-function component, serving as an NH3 evaporator and a CO2 condenser, facilitating the efficient phase transition of CO2 gas into liquid.
