The NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system is an innovative solution that brilliantly combines two distinct refrigeration stages: the high-temperature stage, where NH3 serves as the refrigerant, and the low-temperature stage, utilizing CO2. In this seamless system, the NH3 refrigerant in the high-temperature stage evaporates to efficiently condense the CO2 refrigerant gas from the low-temperature stage. A condensation evaporator artfully bridges the two stages, performing dual roles as both the high-temperature evaporator and the low-temperature condenser.
At the heart of this system, the heat load is delicately transferred to the CO2 refrigerant via the end evaporator. The CO2 refrigerant absorbs the heat, which is then conveyed to the high-temperature NH3 refrigerant through the condensing evaporator. This NH3 refrigerant, now imbued with heat, passes it on to a high-temperature condenser, which efficiently releases it into the environment using a cooling medium. Once condensed, the CO2 moves from the condensing evaporator to a CO2 reservoir, then travels through a dryer filter and throttle valve into a CO2 gas-liquid separator. The liquid CO2 is propelled to the CO2 evaporator by a circulation pump, where it returns in a two-phase state to the separator. The gaseous CO2 is compressed by the compressor and cycled back to the condensing evaporator, completing this efficient and dynamic cascade refrigeration cycle.
