1. NH3/CO2: The Principle of Cascade Refrigeration System
The NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system is ingeniously designed with two distinct stages: the high-temperature stage and the low-temperature stage. The high-temperature stage employs NH3 as the refrigerant, while the low-temperature stage uses CO2. In this innovative system, NH3 refrigerant evaporation at the high temperature level facilitates the condensation of CO2 refrigerant gas from the low temperature stage. A specially designed condensation evaporator masterfully integrates both high and low-temperature stages, functioning as the condenser for the low temperature level and the evaporator for the high temperature level.
The process begins as the heat load is transferred to the CO2 refrigerant via the end evaporator. This absorbed heat is then seamlessly transferred to the high-temperature NH3 refrigerant through the condensing evaporator. Subsequently, the high-temperature NH3 refrigerant efficiently transfers the heat to the high-temperature condenser, releasing it into the environment through the cooling medium. The condensed CO2 in the condensing evaporator flows into the CO2 reservoir, then progresses into the CO2 gas-liquid separator through the dryer filter and throttle valve. A CO2 circulation pump adeptly guides the liquid CO2 to the CO2 evaporator (excluding an end cooling device like a single freezer or chiller). Post-evaporation, the two-phase CO2 recycles back to the gas-liquid separator, where the gaseous CO2 is drawn by the compressor and compressed back into the condensing evaporator. This efficient cycle continues, completing the entire cascade refrigeration cycle with precision.
In the NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system, both high and low-temperature stages are dedicated refrigeration systems, each utilizing a single refrigerant. The equipment is distinctively divided: the high-temperature NH3 refrigeration system mirrors a conventional system, featuring not only the refrigeration compressor but also a condenser, liquid storage, gas-liquid separator, and throttling device. Conversely, the low-temperature CO2 refrigeration system comprises a CO2 compressor, condensing evaporator, reservoir, gas-liquid separator, filter dryer, pump, throttling device, evaporator, and an expansion vessel, ensuring a comprehensive and efficient setup.
The The CO2 gas-liquid separator is masterfully engineered to isolate CO2 gas droplets from the evaporator in the CO2 compression refrigeration system. This prevents compressor wet stroke, maintains a stable liquid level during pump operation, and effectively stores the end equipment and pipeline liquid return when the pump ceases. When the system is inactive, the gas-liquid separator also serves as a reservoir, capable of holding all the CO2 liquid. An auxiliary evaporator is strategically positioned atop the gas-liquid separator to mitigate excessive CO2 pressure post-shutdown. In the NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system, the condensing evaporator ingeniously serves as both the NH3 side evaporator and the CO2 side condenser, facilitating the compound liquid's evaporation and heat absorption in the tube while converting carbon dioxide gas into liquid within the shell.
