1. Principle of NH3/CO2 Cascade Refrigeration System
The innovative NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system is a masterful orchestration of two distinct stages: high temperature and low temperature. In this sophisticated setup, NH3 serves as the refrigerant at the high temperature stage, while CO2 takes the helm at the low temperature stage. The system ingeniously leverages the evaporation of NH3 at the high temperature level to condense the CO2 emitted from the low temperature level. The interconnection of these stages is achieved through a condensation evaporator, serving dually as the condenser for the CO2 low level and the evaporator for the NH3 high level, ensuring optimal temperature management.

In this seamless dance of thermal exchange, the heat load is adeptly transferred to the CO2 refrigerant via the end evaporator. The absorbed heat by CO2 is then conveyed to the high-temperature NH3 through the condensing evaporator. NH3 subsequently releases the heat to the environment through a high-temperature condenser, assisted by a cooling medium. Post-condensation, CO2 enters the reservoir and continues its journey through a dryer filter and throttle valve into the CO2 gas-liquid separator. The CO2 circulatory pump propels liquid CO2 to the evaporator, where, post-evaporation, two-phase CO2 returns to the separator. The gaseous CO2 is then drawn by a compressor, initiating its compression in the condensing evaporator. This meticulous cycle ensures a continuous and efficient cascade refrigeration process.

Within this NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system, the high and low temperature levels are independent yet harmonious systems, each utilizing a single refrigerant. The equipment composition mirrors this duality: The high-temperature NH3 system aligns with conventional refrigeration systems, comprising a refrigeration compressor, condenser, liquid storage, gas-liquid separator, and throttling device. The low temperature CO2 system, in turn, features a specific configuration including a CO2 compressor, condensing evaporator, reservoir, gas-liquid separator, filter dryer, pump, throttling device, evaporator, and expansion vessel, all designed for maximum efficiency and reliability.
The The CO2 gas-liquid separator plays a crucial role in the CO2 compression refrigeration system, deftly separating CO2 gas droplets from the evaporator to prevent compressor wet stroke, ensure stable liquid levels during pump operation, and manage liquid return when the pump ceases. If utilized as a CO2 reservoir during non-operation, its capacity must accommodate all system CO2 liquid. The inclusion of an auxiliary evaporator at the gas-liquid separator's apex effectively mitigates excessive CO2 pressure post-shutdown. Furthermore, in the NH3/CO2 cascade system, the condensing evaporator doubles as both the NH3 side evaporator and CO2 side condenser, facilitating heat absorption and CO2 gas-to-liquid transition in an integrated shell-and-tube design.
