The NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system is ingeniously crafted with two distinct phases: a high-temperature stage utilizing NH3 as the refrigerant and a low-temperature stage with CO2. The brilliance of this system lies in the evaporation of NH3 at high temperatures, which effectively condenses the CO2 gas emitted from the low-temperature stage. At the core of this process is the condensation evaporator, a dual-purpose marvel serving as a condenser for the low-temperature phase and an evaporator for the high-temperature phase.
In this sophisticated system, the heat load is deftly transferred to the CO2 refrigerant through the end evaporator. The CO2 absorbs heat, which is then channeled to the high-temperature NH3 refrigerant using the condensing evaporator. This NH3 refrigerant disperses heat to a high-temperature condenser, releasing it into the environment via a cooling medium. Meanwhile, condensed CO2 moves to a reservoir and proceeds through a dryer filter and throttle valve to a gas-liquid separator, before being pumped to a CO2 evaporator. The cycle involves CO2 returning in a two-phase form to the gas-liquid separator, with gaseous CO2 compressed by the compressor into the condensing evaporator, perpetuating the seamless cascade refrigeration cycle.
In the cascade refrigeration system using NH3/CO2, both high and low-temperature levels are expertly designed as standalone refrigeration systems with singular refrigerants. The high-temperature NH3 system mirrors conventional systems, encompassing not just a compressor but also a condenser, liquid storage, gas-liquid separator, and throttling mechanism. Meanwhile, the low-temperature CO2 system is equally comprehensive, featuring a CO2 compressor, condensing evaporator, reservoir, gas-liquid separator, filter dryer, pump, and additional components like a throttling device, evaporator, and expansion vessel.
The The CO2 gas-liquid separator is an essential component, expertly designed to isolate CO2 gas droplets emerging from the evaporator in the CO2 compression refrigeration system. It plays a vital role in preventing the compressor's wet stroke, stabilizing the liquid level during pump operation, and efficiently managing liquid return when the pump halts. If this separator acts as a CO2 reservoir while idle, its capacity must accommodate all system CO2 liquid. Additionally, an auxiliary evaporator atop the separator guards against excessive CO2 pressure post-shutdown. Within the NH3/CO2 cascade system, the condensing evaporator doubles as the NH3 side evaporator and the CO2 side condenser, elegantly facilitating compound liquid evaporation and heat absorption in its tube, while the CO2 gas seamlessly condenses into liquid form in the shell.
