1. NH3/CO2: The Principle of Cascade Refrigeration System
The NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system elegantly combines two distinct stages: a high-temperature stage utilizing NH3 as the refrigerant, and a low-temperature stage harnessing CO2 as the refrigerant. The high-temperature stage employs the evaporation of NH3 refrigerant to condense the CO2 refrigerant gas emanating from the low-temperature stage. A condensation evaporator acts as a seamless bridge, connecting both the high and low-temperature levels, serving dually as the low-temperature condenser and the high-temperature evaporator.
In this sophisticated system, the heat load is efficiently transferred to the CO2 refrigerant through the terminal evaporator. The absorbed heat by the CO2 refrigerant is further relayed to the high-temperature NH3 refrigerant via the condensing evaporator. Subsequently, the high-temperature NH3 refrigerant dutifully transfers the accumulated heat to a high-temperature condenser, releasing it to the environment through a cooling medium. Post-condensation, the CO2 in the condensing evaporator flows into the CO2 reservoir, then journeys through a dryer filter and throttle valve into the CO2 gas-liquid separator. The liquid CO2 is adeptly directed to the CO2 evaporator via the CO2 circulation pump, continuing the cycle where gaseous CO2 is compressed back into the condensing evaporator, perpetuating the seamless cascade refrigeration cycle.
NH3/CO2: In this cascade refrigeration marvel, both high and low-temperature levels operate as independent refrigeration systems using distinctive single refrigerants. The system's composition is bifurcated: The high-temperature NH3 refrigeration system mirrors conventional systems, equipped with a refrigeration compressor, condenser, liquid storage, gas-liquid separator, and throttling device. Meanwhile, the low-temperature CO2 refrigeration system, beyond its CO2 compressor, integrates a condensing evaporator, reservoir, gas-liquid separator, filter dryer, pump, throttling device, evaporator, and expansion vessel.
The CO2 gas-liquid separator is a pivotal component, effectively separating CO2 gas droplets from the evaporator within the CO2 compression refrigeration system to prevent the compressor's wet stroke. It stabilizes the liquid level during pump operations, ensuring safe storage of end equipment and pipeline liquid return during pump inactivity. If serving as a CO2 reservoir during non-operational periods, its volume must encapsulate all system CO2 liquid. An auxiliary evaporator atop the gas-liquid separator effectively mitigates excessive CO2 pressure post-shutdown. Within the NH3/CO2 cascade system, this condensing evaporator assumes dual roles, functioning as both the NH3 side evaporator and the CO2 side condenser, where compound liquid evaporates absorbing heat, while CO2 gas condenses into a liquid.

(1.(3)) It maximizes the heat transfer virtues of NH3 within high-temperature regions, effectively cooling CO2.
(2) CO2, as a safe medium, is seamlessly introduced into personnel-intensive areas, such as single-freezing machines and warehouses, ensuring the utmost safety for both personnel and property.
