1. NH3/CO2: The Principle of Cascade Refrigeration System
The NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system is a marvel of engineering, artfully composed of two distinct stages: high temperature and low temperature. The high temperature stage operates with NH3 as its refrigerant, while the low temperature stage employs CO2. In an ingenious process, the evaporation of NH3 refrigerant at the high temperature stage is leveraged to condense CO2 gas expelled from the low temperature side. Acting as a bridge between these stages is the condensation evaporator, a dual-purpose marvel serving as both the condenser for the CO2 and the evaporator for the NH3, seamlessly uniting the high and low temperature phases.
The intricate dance of heat transfer begins at the end evaporator, where the heat load moves to the CO2 refrigerant. This heat is then masterfully transferred to the high-temperature NH3 refrigerant via the condensing evaporator. Subsequently, the NH3 refrigerant releases this heat to the environment through the high-temperature condenser, utilizing a cooling medium. Following condensation in the evaporator, CO2 progresses to the CO2 reservoir, continuing through the dryer filter and throttle valve to enter the CO2 gas-liquid separator. The liquid CO2 is propelled to the CO2 evaporator by the CO2 circulation pump, continuing the cycle. As the evaporator completes its role, a mixture of phases returns to the separator, where gaseous CO2 is drawn into the compressor, compressed, and reintroduced to the condensing evaporator, perpetuating the elegant cycle of the cascade refrigeration system.
NH3/CO2 in the cascade refrigeration system represents a sophisticated integration of dual refrigerant systems, each dedicated to its temperature level. The high-temperature NH3 refrigeration system mimics traditional setups, complete with a refrigeration compressor, condenser, liquid storage, gas-liquid separator, and throttling device. Meanwhile, the low-temperature CO2 system boasts components such as a CO2 compressor, condensing evaporator, reservoir, and more, seamlessly interwoven for optimal performance.

When the system is at rest, the separator doubles as a CO2 reservoir, with volume sufficient to contain all CO2 liquid. Furthermore, an auxiliary evaporator atop the separator precludes excessive CO2 pressure post-shutdown. In the NH3/CO2 cascade system, the condensing evaporator transcends its dual role as both NH3 evaporator and CO2 condenser, expertly facilitating compound liquid evaporation and heat absorption in the tube, while condensing CO2 gas into liquid form in the shell.
