1. The NH3/CO2 Cascade Refrigeration System Principle
The NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system artfully combines a high-temperature stage and a low-temperature stage. Ingeniously, NH3 serves as the refrigerant for the high-temperature stage, while CO2 is the chosen refrigerant for the low-temperature stage. The brilliance of this system lies in using the evaporation of NH3 refrigerant in the high-temperature level to condense CO2 refrigerant gas released from the low-temperature level. An intricate condensation evaporator seamlessly links the high and low levels, acting dually as a condenser for the low-temperature level and an evaporator for the high-temperature level.
In the cascade system, the CO2 refrigerant absorbs the heat load via the end evaporator, transferring it to the NH3 refrigerant in the condensation evaporator. The high-temperature NH3 refrigerant then elegantly releases this heat to the environment through the high-temperature condenser. The condensed CO2 moves gracefully into the CO2 reservoir, advancing through the dryer filter and throttle valve into the CO2 gas-liquid separator. Liquid CO2 is driven by the CO2 circulation pump to the CO2 evaporator, with the absence of an end cooling device such as a single freezer. Post evaporation, two-phase CO2 returns to the gas-liquid separator, while gaseous CO2 is compressed by the compressor back into the condensing evaporator, perpetuating the entire cycle and ensuring an efficient cascade refrigeration process.
NH3/CO2 in the cascade refrigeration system operates with high ingenuity, dividing into two distinct refrigeration systems for each temperature level. The high-temperature NH3 system mirrors conventional designs, incorporating a refrigeration compressor, condenser, liquid storage, gas-liquid separator, and a throttling device. Meanwhile, the low-temperature CO2 system is equipped with a CO2 compressor, condensing evaporator, reservoir, gas-liquid separator, filter dryer, pump, throttling device, evaporator, and an expansion vessel, all working in harmony to achieve optimal cooling performance.
The The CO2 gas-liquid separator is expertly engineered to eliminate CO2 gas droplets from the evaporator, preventing compressor wet strokes and maintaining a stable liquid level during pump operation, while efficiently storing liquid return when the pump halts. When the pump is idle, this separator can serve as the system's CO2 reservoir, aptly containing all liquid CO2. The innovation continues with an auxiliary evaporator positioned atop the separator to avert excessive CO2 pressure upon shutdown. Ingeniously, in this NH3/CO2 cascade system, the condensing evaporator doubles as the NH3 evaporator and the CO2 condenser, efficiently converting gaseous CO2 into liquid within the shell through compound liquid heat absorption and evaporation.
