1. The Principle of NH3/CO2 Cascade Refrigeration System
The NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system ingeniously combines two stages: the high-temperature stage utilizing NH3 as the refrigerant and the low-temperature stage leveraging CO2. In this sophisticated setup, the evaporation process of NH3 in the high-temperature system is harnessed to condense the CO2 refrigerant expelled from the low-temperature stage. This is seamlessly achieved through a condensation evaporator that bridges the two cooling levels, functioning as both the low stage's condenser and the high stage's evaporator.
In this advanced system, heat is efficiently transferred to the CO2 refrigerant via the end evaporator. The absorbed heat by CO2 is then conveyed to the high-temperature NH3 refrigerant using the condensing evaporator. Subsequently, the NH3 refrigerant dissipates the heat to a high-temperature condenser, releasing it into the environment through an efficient cooling medium. The condensed CO2 then proceeds to a storage reservoir, moving through a dryer filter and throttle valve into a gas-liquid separator. The liquid CO2 is propelled to the evaporator by a circulation pump, completing the cycle as it returns to the gas-liquid separator; gaseous CO2 is then compressed back into the condensing evaporator, perpetuating the refrigeration process.
In the NH3/CO2 cascade system, each temperature level is a distinct refrigeration system with a dedicated refrigerant. The high-temperature NH3 system parallels conventional systems, featuring components like compressors, condensers, liquid storages, and more. Conversely, the low-temperature CO2 system integrates specialized components including CO2 compressors, condensing evaporators, reservoirs, separators, filters, and other vital elements, all working harmoniously to deliver exceptional cooling performance.

During downtime, it acts as a CO2 reservoir, its volume accommodating all system liquid CO2. An auxiliary evaporator placed atop prevents undue pressure build-up. In this system, the condensing evaporator serves dual roles, acting as both the NH3 evaporator and the CO2 condenser, facilitating optimal heat exchange.
