1. NH3/CO2: The Ingenious Principle of Cascade Refrigeration System
The NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system is a marvel of modern engineering, ingeniously divided into two distinct parts: the high-temperature stage and the low-temperature stage. The high-temperature stage operates with NH3 as its refrigerant, while the low-temperature stage uses CO2. Through a seamless integration, the evaporation of NH3 in the high-temperature system efficiently condenses CO2 emitted from the low-temperature stage. A sophisticated condensation evaporator artfully bridges the high and low temperature stages, serving as the condenser for CO2 and the evaporator for NH3.
In this advanced system, the heat load is adeptly transferred to CO2 refrigerant via the end evaporator. This absorbed heat is then conveyed to NH3 refrigerant through the condensing evaporator, which further transfers heat to a high-temperature condenser, subsequently releasing it into the environment through a cooling medium. Following this, the condensed CO2 is stored in the CO2 reservoir and proceeds through the gas-liquid separator via a dryer filter and throttle valve. The CO2 circulation pump then sends liquid CO2 to the evaporator, and after processing, the two-phase CO2 returns to the separator. Gaseous CO2, now in its next stage, is compressed by the compressor back into the condensing evaporator, perpetuating a continuous and efficient cascade refrigeration cycle.
NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration systems boast a dual-layered structure, each dedicated to a single refrigerant. The high-temperature NH3 system mirrors conventional refrigeration setups, inclusive of a compressor, condenser, liquid storage, and separation and throttling devices. Meanwhile, the low-temperature CO2 system is outfitted with a CO2 compressor, condensing evaporator, reservoir, separator, filter dryer, pump, throttling device, evaporator, and expansion vessel, all working harmoniously to achieve exceptional cooling performance.
The CO2 gas-liquid separator plays a pivotal role in the CO2 compression refrigeration system by separating moisture droplets from CO2 gas, thereby preventing compressor wet stroke and ensuring liquid stability during pump operations. When the pump halts, it adeptly stores end equipment and pipeline liquid. If utilized as a CO2 reservoir, its design ensures capacity to accommodate the entire system's CO2 liquid. Furthermore, an auxiliary evaporator at the top safeguards against excessive CO2 pressure post-shutdown. Within the NH3/CO2 cascade system, the condensing evaporator doubles as the NH3-side evaporator and CO2-side condenser, where the compound liquid skillfully absorbs heat, transforming gaseous CO2 into liquid.
