1. The Principle of NH3/CO2 Cascade Refrigeration System
NH3/CO2 Cascade Refrigeration System is ingeniously designed with a two-tier mechanism: high temperature and low temperature stages. The high temperature stage utilizes NH3 as the refrigerant, while the low temperature stage operates with CO2. In this system, the evaporative qualities of NH3 in the high temperature stage are harnessed to condense the CO2 gas from the low temperature stage effectively. A condensation evaporator serves as a critical link between these stages, functioning dually as the low temperature condenser and the high temperature evaporator, ensuring seamless thermal exchange and system efficiency.
In this advanced system, the heat load is effectively transferred to the CO2 refrigerant through the end evaporator. This absorbed heat is then conveyed to the high-temperature NH3 refrigerant via the condensation evaporator, facilitating heat transfer to the high-temperature condenser, where it dissipates into the environment with the help of a cooling medium. The condensed CO2 is channeled into a CO2 reservoir, followed by a journey through a dryer filter and throttle valve into the CO2 gas-liquid separator. The liquid CO2 circulates to the CO2 evaporator via the CO2 circulation pump. Post-evaporation, the two-phase CO2 returns to the separator, and the gaseous CO2 is compressed back into the condensing evaporator by the compressor, perpetuating the efficient cascade refrigeration cycle.
NH3/CO2 Cascade Refrigeration System divides its components into two distinct refrigeration systems, each using a single refrigerant. The high-temperature NH3 system mirrors conventional refrigerant systems, comprising a compressor, condenser, liquid storage, gas-liquid separator, and throttling device. Meanwhile, the low temperature CO2 system features a CO2 compressor, condensing evaporator, reservoir, gas-liquid separator, filter dryer, pump, throttling device, evaporator, and expansion vessel, creating a comprehensive and efficient setup.
The In the CO2 compression refrigeration system, the gas-liquid separator plays a pivotal role by segregating CO2 gas droplets from the evaporator, thereby ensuring compressor safety and maintaining a stable liquid level during pump operation. It also provides a reservoir for end equipment and pipeline liquid return upon pump shutdown. If used as a CO2 reservoir, its volume must accommodate the entire system’s CO2 liquid. An auxiliary evaporator is installed atop the separator to prevent excessive CO2 pressure post-shutdown. Within the NH3/CO2 cascade system, the condensing evaporator acts simultaneously as the NH3 side evaporator and CO2 side condenser, efficiently facilitating compound liquid evaporation and CO2 gas condensation.
