1. The Ingenious Principle of NH3/CO2 Cascade Refrigeration
The NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system ingeniously integrates two distinct stages: the high-temperature stage employing NH3 as its refrigerant and the low-temperature stage utilizing CO2. This innovative system operates by evaporating the NH3 refrigerant at the high-temperature stage, which subsequently condenses the CO2 refrigerant gas emitted from the low-temperature stage. The two stages are seamlessly connected through a condensation evaporator, serving as both the condenser for CO2 and the evaporator for NH3, ensuring efficient heat transfer and cooling.
The remarkable heat transfer mechanism begins as the heat load is absorbed by the CO2 refrigerant via the end evaporator. This absorbed heat is then transferred to the high-temperature NH3 refrigerant through the condensing evaporator. The NH3 refrigerant, now carrying the heat, efficiently releases it to the environment through the high-temperature condenser. The process continues as the condensed CO2 is directed into the CO2 reservoir, passing through the dryer filter and throttle valve, and is circulated back to the evaporator by the CO2 circulation pump. The two-phase CO2 returns to the gas-liquid separator, completing the cycle as gaseous CO2 is compressed back into the condensing evaporator, achieving a continuous and effective cascade refrigeration cycle.

The high-temperature NH3 refrigeration system mirrors traditional systems and includes a compressor, condenser, liquid storage, gas-liquid separator, and throttling device. The low-temperature CO2 system, on the other hand, encompasses a CO2 compressor, condensing evaporator, reservoir, gas-liquid separator, filter dryer, pump, throttling device, evaporator, and expansion vessel, working in harmony to deliver superior cooling efficiency.

Moreover, an auxiliary evaporator should be strategically placed atop the separator to avert excessive CO2 pressure after shutdown.
