1. NH3/CO2: The Principle of Cascade Refrigeration System
The NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system is ingeniously engineered to incorporate two distinct stages: a high-temperature stage using NH3 as the refrigerant, and a low-temperature stage leveraging CO2. In this system, the evaporation of NH3 at the high-temperature level is strategically utilized to condense the CO2 refrigerant gas expelled from the low-temperature level. A condensation evaporator seamlessly bridges the high and low-temperature stages, doubling as the condenser for the CO2 and the evaporator for the NH3, facilitating a harmonious integration of these stages.

In this sophisticated process, the heat load is expertly transferred to the CO2 refrigerant via the end evaporator. The absorbed heat by CO2 is then efficiently shifted to the high-temperature NH3 refrigerant through the condensing evaporator. Subsequently, the NH3 refrigerant dispels this heat to the environment through the high-temperature condenser, using a cooling medium. As the CO2 condenses in the evaporator, it enters the CO2 reservoir, proceeding to the gas-liquid separator after passing through the dryer filter and throttle valve. Liquid CO2 is pumped to the CO2 evaporator, bypassing any end-cooling devices, and after evaporation, the two-phase CO2 is directed back to the separator. Gaseous CO2 is then compressed and returned to the cycle, ensuring an uninterrupted cascade refrigeration process.

Within the NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration framework, the high and low-temperature levels are distinctly designed as individual refrigerant systems. The high-temperature NH3 system mirrors conventional refrigeration systems, incorporating essential components like compressors, condensers, liquid storage, separators, and throttling devices. The low-temperature CO2 system uniquely includes a CO2 compressor, condensing evaporator, reservoir, gas-liquid separator, filter dryer, pump, throttling device, evaporator, and expansion vessel, all intricately harmonized for optimal performance.
The The CO2 gas-liquid separator is meticulously engineered to efficiently segregate CO2 gas droplets emanating from the evaporator, safeguarding against compressor wet strokes. It adeptly maintains a stable liquid level during pump operations and stores the returning liquid when the pump halts. When used as a reservoir, it is vital that the separator's volume can accommodate all system CO2 liquid. An auxiliary evaporator is strategically positioned atop the separator to mitigate excessive CO2 pressure post-shutdown.
