1. NH3/CO2: The Principle of Cascade Refrigeration System
NH3/CO2: The cascade refrigeration system comprises two stages: a high-temperature stage and a low-temperature stage. The high-temperature stage uses NH3 as the refrigerant, while the low-temperature stage utilizes CO2. The NH3 refrigerant evaporates at the high temperature level to condense the CO2 gas from the low temperature level. A condensation evaporator connects these stages, serving as both the condenser for the low-temperature stage and the evaporator for the high-temperature stage.
The heat load transfers to the CO2 refrigerant via the end evaporator. The CO2 refrigerant absorbs this heat and transfers it to the high-temperature NH3 refrigerant through the condensing evaporator. The high-temperature NH3 refrigerant then dissipates this heat to the environment via a high-temperature condenser and cooling medium. The condensed CO2 from the condensing evaporator moves into the CO2 reservoir, then into the CO2 gas-liquid separator through a dryer filter and throttle valve. A CO2 circulation pump sends the liquid CO2 to the CO2 evaporator, which then returns as two-phase CO2 to the gas-liquid separator. The gaseous CO2 is compressed by the compressor into the condensing evaporator, repeating the cycle to complete the refrigeration process.
NH3/CO2: In this cascade refrigeration system, high and low temperature levels operate as individual refrigeration systems with single refrigerants. The high-temperature NH3 system mirrors a conventional refrigeration setup, including a refrigeration compressor, condenser, liquid storage, gas-liquid separator, and throttling device. Conversely, the low-temperature CO2 system includes a CO2 compressor, condensing evaporator, reservoir, gas-liquid separator, filter dryer, pump, throttling device, evaporator, and expansion vessel.
TheCO2 gas-liquid separator ensures the separation of CO2 gas droplets from the evaporator in the CO2 compression refrigeration system, preventing compressor wet strokes. It maintains a stable liquid level during pump operation and stores the equipment and pipeline liquid return when the pump stops. As a reservoir, it should accommodate all CO2 liquid in the system. An auxiliary evaporator atop the gas-liquid separator prevents excessive CO2 pressure after shutdown. In the NH3/CO2 cascade system, the condensing evaporator functions as both the evaporator on the NH3 side and the condenser on the CO2 side, where the compound liquid evaporates and absorbs heat, condensing the CO2 gas into a liquid.
