NH3/CO2 Cascade Refrigeration System
1. NH3/CO2: The Ingenious Principle of Cascade Refrigeration System
The NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system ingeniously integrates two stages: a high-temperature stage using NH3 as the refrigerant and a low-temperature stage using CO2. The NH3 refrigerant evaporates at the high-temperature stage, thereby condensing the CO2 gas from the low-temperature stage. A condensation evaporator connects these two stages, functioning both as the condenser for the low-temperature stage and the evaporator for the high-temperature stage.
 
In this system, the heat load is efficiently transferred to the CO2 refrigerant via the end evaporator. The absorbed heat by CO2 is then transferred to the high-temperature NH3 refrigerant through the condensing evaporator. Subsequently, the high-temperature NH3 refrigerant releases this heat into the environment through the high-temperature condenser. The condensed CO2 transfers through a series of processes, maintaining a continuous and efficient refrigeration cycle that ensures optimal performance.

In the NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system, each temperature stage operates as an independent refrigeration system using a single refrigerant. The high-temperature NH3 system includes standard components such as the refrigeration compressor, condenser, liquid storage, gas-liquid separator, and throttling device. Meanwhile, the low-temperature CO2 system comprises the CO2 compressor, condensing evaporator, reservoir, gas-liquid separator, filter dryer, pump, throttling device, evaporator, and expansion vessel.
 
The CO2 gas-liquid separator is vital for separating CO2 gas droplets from the evaporator within the CO2 compression refrigeration system. This prevents compressor wet strokes and maintains a stable liquid level during pump operation. When the pump stops, it safely stores the returning liquid. If the gas-liquid separator serves as a CO2 reservoir, it must accommodate all the system's CO2 liquid. An auxiliary evaporator atop the gas-liquid separator ensures CO2 pressure remains manageable post-shutdown. In the NH3/CO2 cascade system, the condensing evaporator doubles as both the NH3 side's evaporator and the CO2 side's condenser, efficiently managing heat transfer and condensation processes.

2. Advantages of the NH3/CO2 Cascade Refrigeration System
(1) Enhanced Safety with Reduced NH3 Risks:

(1.(3)) This system exploits NH3's excellent heat transfer properties in high-temperature regions to cool CO2 effectively.
(2) CO2 Integration for Enhanced Safety: CO2 serves as the medium in personnel-intensive areas like operation rooms and warehouses, ensuring the safety of both personnel and property.
