1. The Principle of NH3/CO2 Cascade Refrigeration System
Experience the cutting-edge design of the NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system, meticulously structured into two distinctive parts: a high-temperature stage and a low-temperature stage. The innovation begins with NH3 as the refrigerant in the high-temperature stage, seamlessly transitioning to CO2 as the refrigerant in the low-temperature stage. The process is brilliantly engineered; the evaporation of NH3 in the high-temperature level effectively condenses CO2 gas from the low-temperature level. This sophisticated system employs a condensation evaporator to flawlessly bridge the high and low-temperature stages, serving as both the condenser for the low-temperature level and the evaporator for the high-temperature level.
In this ingenious system, heat load is adeptly transferred to the CO2 refrigerant through the end evaporator. The heat journey continues as the CO2 refrigerant transfers its absorbed heat to the high-temperature NH3 refrigerant via the condensing evaporator. The high-temperature NH3 refrigerant, in turn, channels the heat to a high-temperature condenser, gracefully releasing it to the environment through a cooling medium. Once condensed, CO2 enters the CO2 reservoir, advancing through a dryer filter and throttle valve into the CO2 gas-liquid separator. Liquid CO2 is propelled to the CO2 evaporator by the CO2 circulation pump, with no end cooling device necessary (like a single freezer or chiller). Following the evaporator, two-phase CO2 finds its way back to the gas-liquid separator, where gaseous CO2 is drawn by the compressor and compressed into the condensing evaporator, perpetuating the seamless cascade refrigeration cycle.
The NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system ingeniously separates high and low-temperature levels, each utilizing a single refrigerant in their respective systems. The equipment is strategically divided: the high-temperature NH3 refrigeration system mirrors a conventional setup, complete with a refrigeration compressor, condenser, liquid storage, gas-liquid separator, and throttling device. Meanwhile, the low-temperature CO2 refrigeration system is a marvel of engineering, boasting a CO2 compressor, condensing evaporator, reservoir, gas-liquid separator, filter dryer, pump, throttling device, evaporator, and expansion vessel, all harmoniously orchestrated for optimal performance.

This prudent separation mitigates the risk of compressor wet stroke, maintains a stable liquid level during pump operation, and accommodates pipeline liquid return when the pump halts. If utilized as a CO2 reservoir during inactivity, the separator's volume is adeptly designed to encompass all CO2 liquid within the system. An auxiliary evaporator is strategically placed atop the gas-liquid separator, skillfully preventing excessive CO2 pressure post-shutdown. In the NH3/CO2 cascade refrigeration system, the condensing evaporator functions dually as the NH3-side evaporator and CO2-side condenser, where compound liquid evaporates and absorbs heat within the tube, culminating in the condensation of carbon dioxide gas into liquid form within the shell.
